My Trade

As you might have noticed, I'm in to graphic design. I actually should have majored in it, but chose journalism instead. When I was working at the TV station I learned a ton about graphics. In college I also took web design and learned a lot about building and designing websites accompanied by my HTML for dummies book. I also have a CSS for dummies book and I truly must be a dummy because I could not figure it out.

My first website I did for someone else. My local dance studio that I took dance classes at. It was somewhat simple and cheesy. Then I remodeled the website after a few years and then just a few weeks ago I remodeled it again but decided to say good bye to Microsoft FrontPage for awhile and just like the theme of this blog, chose an already made template. But the header, of course my own photo shop doing ;).

So I thought when I was going to be a stay at home mom that I would expand my website business. Sounded like a good idea at the time. I design the website for Alvin's a local restaurant here in the small town I live in and like I said that Dance Studio. I thought this was awesome, it would be great money if I build up a clientele....then well life got in the way. I didn't have time to build up a clientele because I needed to start having an income right away....so what does any other stay at home mom do when they need money, baby sit.

So now that I am a caregiver for 2 lovely little toddlers in my home 5 days a week, who has time for the website design business right? So I still have my 2 clients, but I'm not taking on anymore obviously I shouldn't be sitting at a computer all day when I've got kids to tickle and read stories to....so for right now that is on hold. But it might be in the cards for me later on like when J is headed to kindergarten and I have a business plan set forth. The good thing about doing this for businesses is that they can refer you to another client. Since this has been my art forever, wouldn't it make sense to pursue my art? I'm thinking so.

On that note, I am expecting the kiddos any minute now, so I probably should go....but I think this is something I might pursue in the future. Time will tell, and I hope you like my new "summer edition" header. I worked on it last night on a whim and while School might be starting this week for many familes, for us, its summer until the leaves start changing.....

Hi Heather! This was neat to read about your trade. Your summer edition blog header is really cool! Like you, I wish I would have majored in graphic design or some kind of art (my hubby too). We both did engineering, lol. I feel for you about trying to build a clientele but having no time because you want to be there for the kids! Esp. since you're watching others' kids. I did something similar while building my card business up - got out there, built up a clientele only to find I had little time for my family. I had to put it on hold b/c I wanted to spend more time with them. How much longer til Jaydon heads to kindergarten? Hang in there, definitely pursue your art, your trade! My son is entering kindergarten this fall and I've waited for years but it's all worth it! Thanks for stopping by my feature post and for your sweet comment, have a super day! ~Jinnia

I think that'd be a perfect job for you!! Especially if you love it! RIght now my only other income besides working once a week is selling Scentsy. I haven't gotten the hang of it yet, but I've already made commission and I love the product. I say go for it!!
