Ptyalism with Hyperemesis

Hi friends!

I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the pregnancy well wishes. I was elated and ecstatic to be adding to our family. A lot of that has died down as I am not myself. Not at all. I have a condition this pregnancy called Ptyalism with Hyperemesis. Ptyalism is when a pregnant woman produces too much saliva. Some women just feel they have more saliva than normal, others produce so much they have to spit constantly and it makes them nauseated. I am the girl with the spit cup and this has caused me to have Hyperemesis which is an extreme unrelenting case of morning sickness. From the time I wake up, to the time I go to bed. Little things relieve it. I've tried known remedies like vitamin B6, ginger tea, graham crackers, those things don't seem to help. I may actually have to get a prescription for zofran just so I can function. Its not fair to my son, or the kids that I am watching that I am constantly in the bathroom or not my spunky self.

Morning sickness is a right of passage to pregnancy and being a parent and certainly some have it worse than others, and others never experience morning sickness. I had morning sickness with my son til 21 weeks, I had hours in between bouts of nausea and usually keeping a little food in my tummy all the time helped. The times that were the worst for me was when I had to go more than 4 hours without eating. This time, it doesn't seem to help, every half hour or so, I am in the bathroom. It exhausting, I feel weak and I'm trying my best to keep a positive this too shall pass attitude. Its been hard. I know in the end I will be happy and all this suffering will be worth it.

Anyway, that is my update and that is the reason I have neglected my daily blog entries. I take any chance I can get to nap. I wish I had a live in house keeper, or at least a dish washer. Washing dishes is very nauseating for me seeing all the old yucky food as it goes down the drain is just super yucky! Sometimes changing a diaper is better! Anyway, I will be around eventually....when I'm healthy.

Hello, I also suffer from ptyalism (and I'm 7 mos) and I'm always googling it and also, writing about it. I'm over at church avenue chomp and I wish you the absolute best with your pregnancy and the evils of spitting and dehydration. Drink coconut water, my friend, that is the best for keeping your potassium levels at an ok level. Be well and know that you'll be better when the baby is out!
