Well the last three months around our new home has been filled with sounds you probably wouldn't hear unless you were at a construction site. Hammering and sawing have been the number one sounds...painting doesn't really have a sound. Usually with the sound of hammering also comes the occasional curse word, especially when one's thumb or finger gets the blunt end of that hammer. Now I admit, I have a potty mouth...I try so hard to curb it around my kids, but it just flows out like a muddy river. I am guilty....if my child says a curse word, I'm not gonna hide and pretend he didn't possibly get it from me. But I also make sure he knows mommy said a bad word and that he shouldn't say it. I don't condone my actions around him. So either myself, or hunky hubs must have said the words "DAM IT" one time when we were hanging a picture..or something of the sort. Because my son thinks this:
is called a Dammer.
He will pretend to be hammering and say things like, "I'm gonna fix it mamma, I'm just Damming.....Oh Dam it" Its so hard not to laugh and you have to be careful when your child says something that is controversial not to have a certain reaction because they may want to repeat what they are saying due to how you react. Don't laugh. Sometimes pretending you didn't hear it works better and they carry on never saying what they said again.
Since the start of our home renovations, we've been finding several of my husband's tools in the playroom from J myster snatching them. So after our date last night we promised we'd bring J myster back a toy. We brought him back a super hero cape (I no longer have to tuck his blanket into the back of his shirt during his super hero episodes) and we bought him a tool box. He can now hammer and bang on things right along side daddy with his own play tool box full of tools.
It was a great investment as he hasn't played with anything else today, and he's learned to play with it on the couch so that Baby B doesn't get his new toys.
So he gets to play with his screw drivers and nails and bolts and of course his little dammer....aka hammer.
