The Last Summer Barbecue

Motherhood is a complicated thing. You see we long and yearn to keep our babies small and cuddly. We don't want them to grow up, but at the same time we understand the eb and flow of the world. We understand that to be good parents we have to let our children grow and experience life....we have to let them fall, let them fail and let them jump sometimes....and most of all let them grow...even if it means they grow apart from you.

Its painful...yet joyous. We want our children to do well, to be good people, to excel, to have friends, to love life...and to do that, is to expose them to as much of it as possible.

Why am I so reflective?

My youngest just turned 10 months old on Saturday and I forgot to take his 10 month picture. We tried to last night, but the lighting just wasn't right and my phone made everything blurry. So at this moment when my precious Baby B was "still", I snapped a picture. He is almost a year old. I just really am in awe of it all. So much has happened this year that it seems like forever ago that we were living in the townhouse, and now we have our own home that we are fixing up and will be for many years and Baby B is growing like a weed.

This weekend we had our first dinner guest over, outside of the house warming party we had back in August.  We cleaned up the back yard, raked leaves, moved rocks, and prepared ribs, fried potatoes and baked beans and sat out back by our fire pit and just chatted....we enjoyed a meal and some time with a friend until it got dark.

Its officially the end of summer.

October 2010
This week we will be taking the boys to Allen's Pumpkin Patch where I hope to get some good pics of the kids picking out a pumpkin to carve!

Now in the coming months we will be looking for Halloween costumes, trick or treating, going on autumn walks with the kids, cutting firewood to keep us warm thru the winter, making snow angels and the tallest snowmen on the block and just trying to stay warm.

Are you surprised at how fast the year flies by?  I think it flies by faster when you have kids.

Flies is an understatement; it's more of a warp speed when you have children. Just yesterday it was my first baby shower and now I'm getting ready for my grandson's sixth birthday! How wonderful to be part of this digital world where you can take all the picures you want, and how wonderful to be a mom who wants to do that. Here from the Weekend Blog Hop Showcase and I congratulate you on this banner year and promise you there'll be many more. BB2U

Heather, love that 10 month old picture! It reminds me that my daughter slept through the first few pictures we tried to pose for holidays...so cute and funny! Yes, the time does go by faster with kids. This year seems to be exceptionally speedy...or I am getting realllllly OLD! My daughter is turning 12 Tuesday! ACk!

I have a picture of the four of us sitting under our Christmas tree and baby B is screaming his head off, but we only had the photographer for a short time. One child is laughing the other child is screaming and the bewilderment on Hunky Hubs and my face was the stuff of classic family photo cards. Its one of my favorite pics now! Then of course I have a zillion shots of Baby B sleeping. ;)

It flies. It most certainly does. Your sweet lil B is just precious, Heather. This post made a little weepy. Motherhood is so bittersweet sometimes. Watching our babies become toddlers, then preschoolers, then big kids. It's all so amazing to watch. The adventures and the misteps are such a blessing. My tears are happy ones more often than they are sad. but the sad tears definitely come when i miss them being itty bitty babies snuggled close to my chest. I loved this post, mama <3
Oh and those trees are so gorgeous! Is that your back yard?

Ah ha! I wish that was my back yard! That would be cool. That is actually a picture I took on a trip back in 2009 down to Sedona Arizona. They have these lovely switchback roads where the trees canopy the roads so nicely. I want to go back this year with both boys! Its sooo pretty!

Time definitely starts flying past when you have kids... It's so bittersweet. I think you worded it perfectly. :)
