Now I just have a simple digital camera, but I hardly ever user the "auto" function on it. I like using natural lighting and love using my camera out doors with my kids or by a brightly lit window. Those are the best pictures.

J Myster And His Blanket

When I was working at KNAZ I had a co-worker of mine give me a wonderful baby gift and I was only about 9 or 10 weeks along. She gave me the cutest little Nike baby socks and this beautiful white silk and fuzzy blanket. Its fuzzy on one side and has a duck sewn into the corner of the blanket and silky on the other side. My son has had this blanket along with many other blankets in his crib or pack n play since birth but he's always taken to this blanket. I think its because he loved the silky feel to it. As he got older and as his friend CB had a favorite blanket that she had to bring to my house, I would deter him from trying to steal her blanket by showing him he had a special blanket too. My son will be turning three in March and since he was about a year old, him and his blanket have been inseparable. Of course we can get by from taking it out on outings with us, but this blanket has had many washings. Its seen the ugly side of vomit, poop, been dragged in the dirt at the zoo, made its trek to California with us on vacation, seen the beach and the sand and kept my baby warm after a day in the surf, and its been everything to this little guy.

Slow Cooker Chicken And Rice

So of course Pinterest has me doing things outside the box, and it also makes it easy to try new things. I am slowly but surely working on my recipe repertoire. I want to get out of cooking the same things for dinner every week and experiment a little. I did that last weekend with cloning my husband's all time favorite TGIF's Jack Daniel's Glaze. He is totally in love with the stuff and now I have to jar it. I already said that in my post from yesterday, but I'll say it again because it makes me happy as his wife to find something he loves and that I can make it for him.

Welcome to another "This Week in Pictures", I realized that when I post these I should probably explain a few of them, so here goes...

This week was my husband's birthday. So last weekend I took my "Secrets to Restaurant Cooking" book and cloned the Jack Daniel's glaze recipe! I have now been asked to make a huge amount of this stuff and jar it! My husband was one happy camper. It even made the Packer's loosing against the Giants better, and that is saying a lot since we live and die Packers over here. Then of course after my experimental cooking, sometimes you just have those simple good eats night and that was grilled cheese sandwiches and brownies! YUP! Comfort food!

So our potty training, (while starting out slow) has improved drastically since I now have the energy to keeping up with a wild crazy rambunctious two year old. See J Myster had just turned 2 in March when we found out we were pregnant with Baby B. It was the plan to delve right into potty training but as I've talked about so much on my blog hyperemesis left me doing just the basics for the kids and I had no energy to plop the child on the potty every 15 minutes all day long. So his potty training was delayed. We'd take two steps forward and three giant leaps back in that department. So it was the plan to get him back on track with potty training after the baby came and we have been very successful with it so far.

I just got married and everything was so wonderful. The wedding was picture perfect. The honeymoon was unforgettable. I was starting to think there was no way I would ever fight with this man. Well, after living together for a month, we had to work out a few things. Obviously, we had some different priorities. Since we were a newlywed couple, we had a very small budget for entertainment. Most of our budget went towards house payments and bills. Well, I wanted to use our entertainment budget on date nights and going to the movies. My husband said we should just get the movie channels from direc tv. When I proceeded to tell him that was not the same as going out, he said at least it was cheaper. While I do see his point, date nights are very important to me. I have always thought it is important for a couple to keep dating, even though they are married to one another. Once I explained this to him, he could see my point and agreed we should go on at least one date a month. I think we are going to have a very successful marriage.

The week Started out last weekend with J Myster getting another hair cut. We have to tame that mane of his. It gets scraggely sometimes.

But the exciting part of the week was my maternity and Baby B's photography pictures came in and even though these pictures were taken weeks and months ago, I just had to share a few of them.

Baby B gave us his first smile at 5 weeks and 1 day, the exact same time that J Myster gave us his smile, kinda weird. I guess both kids are wired the same. But we finally caught his smile on camera a few days ago.

My Year In Review

I have baby B in my moby wrap and a moment to actually blog right now. The toddler is sleeping and for some reason was excited to go upstairs and take a snooze. No bribery or anything. Weird. So I have had some blog posts lined up in my head that I've wanted to write, but the business portion of my blog has taken a front burner position while I try to make a little extra money since I'm not watching kids anymore. I'm not sure if I will again, its kind of up in the air. I am just six weeks postpartum and before I bring the chaos of adding another child to the chaos that is my day already, I'd like to have an established routine down and that is hard with a newborn who is nursing. I even have a problem keeping track of my own toddler and his potty issues right now along with bouncing a fussy baby around all the time and keeping a clean house. Yesterday I made major headway and we went to bed last night with a clean house and it felt good.

When I was running a home day care it was easy once all the kids got our day's routine down. But its entirely different with your own children. Other people's kids listen and act better than your own much of the time, but when you throw a colicky newborn and a rambunctious toddler in with errands to run, it spells disaster.

Dream Home Idea!

You know how on Pinterest you can pin things to add to your dream home? Well I have a dream home bathroom idea I must pin. Since I've seen it in many hotels, homes and even at a doctor's office, I think it would be fun to have one of those bathroom sinks that looks like a bowl? I saw this natural pebble glass vessel sink and thought how fun would this be? Of course I'd have to have the rest of the bathroom match in some way. The walls would have to have pebbles or large stone fixtures all over them, the shower floor would be amazing in pebble and of course since we are dreaming here, I'd have to have a coy pond in my bathroom! Ha ha! Ok, maybe thats taking it too far but I am really digging this glass vessel sink! What do you think? There are a lot of different vessel sinks to choose from, but this one I think is my favorite.

I think one of the hardest places to save money these days is with insurance, auto insurance, health insurance, home owners insurance etc. Back when I was searching for auto insurance that was the cheapest, I would watch commercials, get really excited about one and call the insurance company just to find out that what their commercial stated didn't really apply to me in the state I lived in. Or I'd call all the places I could think of off the top of my head to find the cheapest quote, or thumb thru the phone book, but it was really time consuming. Now with the internet its a lot easier to find a quote for cheap auto insurance. And this site makes it easier, so you can do it all in one place.

With our first son, J Myster, my husband and I tried to conceive him for almost two years before we were successful. I am all too familiar with that longing feeling of having a baby and not being able to get pregnant. Now with our second baby, he was a surprise but initially conception didn't come easy for us, which is why when I meet anyone, or if I know anyone who is trying to conceive with difficulty, I do my best to help and be supportive because I know its such a delicate issue and it can be heartbreaking.

When it comes to being pregnant, there are women that love it, women who hate it, and women who feel something in between on the subject. It probably has a lot to do with how pregnancy has treated you and whether you have been pregnant multiple times or not.

If you never had morning sickness, indigestion and you had a pregnancy glow, rather than pregnancy acne, you may love being pregnant and all the attention you get with it.

If however you suffered from hyperemesis, ptylism, indigestion so severe you've compared it to drinking straight acid and instead of showing off a cute belly bump, you've wanted to hide it due to stretch marks, you might have a different perception of pregnancy.

For me it was half in half. My first and most of my second trimester I was miserable with baby number 2. I felt the best in my third trimesters with both of my babies up until the very end where most mothers generally feel the same way..."get this baby out!"

Breast Feeding: Not as Easy as Just Whipping out the Boob.

While I haven't ever considered myself a know it all when it comes to breastfeeding, I am by no means a newbie on the subject. I breastfed my oldest son for a year, but he had bad acid reflux, I mean bad acid reflux that didn't go away until he was nine months old. Now with my second son I have been determined to make breastfeeding a pleasant experience for both of us and to do whatever I can to minimize his reflux as much as possible. Thankfully he is on a reflux medication, but of course it doesn't always help.

Wanting To Do It All Too Fast

Its been just over two weeks since I've had baby B and the last few days I've been feeling disappointed that I wasn't up and doing all the things I normally do. I don't know why I have felt the need to push myself, but I have. I have watched my toddler hold some resentment toward me over the last three to four months of my pregnancy because I just couldn't do the things with him I normally do. Have tickle fights, run and play hide and seek etc. Instead its been don't ram things into mommy's belly or don't do this around mommy and I know he didn't understand why.

I think even as an adult when you come across that perfect dress you have to find that Cinderella moment in it, and every girl knows when they've found that perfect dress! Now me, being a stay at home mom, I don't often where dresses, but every year the hospital where my husband works has the Turquoise ball and being in an amazing dress is just the highlight of the event. Last year I had so much fun with my husband all dressed up and getting our pictures taken like were were at prom. So if you will be hitting a holiday party this year, a nice classy cocktail dress is a must have. Home Design Inspiration!

Oh My Goodness I have found a site that I have fallen in love with! If you own a home where do you get your inspiration from for interior design and remodeling? I'll tell you where I'm getting some grand ideas from! Houzz.com. We started painting the rooms in our town house several years ago, but stopped with our master bedroom and we got to the wall that meets the kitchen and stopped there. I had colors picked out for the kitchen and bedroom but we got side tracked with other projects and stopped. So we have a beautifully painted living room, downstairs bathroom, upstairs master bathroom, nursery and we are still deciding on whether to do anything with J Myster's new room or just wait since we may be moving this summer.

With my first pregnancy I was given the book "What to Expect When You are Expecting". I can't remember who gave it to me, but I do remember reading thru every chapter and being really excited over reading about my baby's development and what to expect that week of pregnancy. It sat on my nightstand, and then later on when we got the nursery together it sat on the stand by the rocking chair so I could have some reading time. I'd go into the nursery, sit in the rocking chair and dream about what it would be like to hold that baby for the first time and parooze thru that book. I enjoyed the week by week tracking to see just what was going on with baby and what to expect from my body and ever expanding belly. It was really a special time.

Braiden's Birth Story (part 2)

So I left off with part one saying that I was waiting in triage to see when I was going to be heading in for my C-section. At first the plan was 4pm, I would be there in triage most of the day. So Hunky Hubs headed back across the hospital at that time to wrap up some last minute work related stuff before his paternity leave, while I sat in triage on my ipad talking to friends with that in one hand, and my cell phone in the other hand hoping I was remembering everyone that I planned on telling when the baby came. Then the nurse came back and said we moved it up to 1pm, so I texted my husband and told him, who headed back across the hospital, and just like that it seemed like it was time to get this baby out.

Since I became a public blogger I knew that my public lifestyle and writing about my family, my children, my marriage ect would be out there and open for the world to see, but I also wanted to protect myself and my family from certain people that have turned out to be nuicances over the years. What I have learned is you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you are going to be a public blogger, you have to take into consideration the people that you don't really want spying on your life, will. They simply can't resist themselves from checking in on you. I have a pretty sophisticated IP tracking program on my blog where I can see who visits my blog. It also tells me when they change their IP address from the last time they visited my blog, what city they live in, what page they looked at and for how long they looked at that page, even down to what browser, operating system and what their screen resolution is etc.

Braiden's Birth Story (part 1)

Last Tuesday at this time I was on the phone with my OB's office and phoning my Sister and Mother in Law to see if one of them could come watch J Myster while I headed to Labor and Delivery. I already had a scheduled C-section date, but from the Saturday before I started leaking amniotic fluid but didn't really know for sure if that was what it was.

I've never been one to rush to the hospital or doctor's office for every little thing, I like to look things up to make sure I don't feel like an idiot after the fact, but in this case I should have acted a little sooner to make sure our little guy was in the clear.

With support from my loving husband and family, I am living an unassuming and fabulous life.

Before becoming a stay-at-home-mom, I performed and taught social justice theatre in the public school system, but it wasn’t until I had my two children than I began writing. Becoming a mother catapulted me into exploring the wild stories of my past to uncover my truth so I could pass along wisdom rather than chaotic cycles of self-destruction.

I stumbled upon Mommy Only Has Two Hands several months ago and was drawn to her courage to overcome the challenges she faced growing up. As Heather says in her bio, “My quest is to be the best mother and wife I can be and to provide my children with lives full of love and nourishment. ” No matter what our path, we can always learn from our past to become the people we’ve always known we could be. Matt and I met back in 2008 when we were living in Kent, but I had plans to move down to Plymouth 250 miles away so that I could be closer to my family who I missed so much. Come January 2009 I moved into my parents house while Matt stayed behind, we spoke on the phone everyday but I missed him so much. It was so hard to be apart but after just 3 weeks I found a job and we both saved up enough money to rent a small studio flat and in May 2009 he moved down and we were happily reunited. It's a long way from his family and I'm so truly thankful that he loves me enough to move all that way to be with me. We always make sure we go and visit everyone in Kent at least once a year and it's nice when they come and visit us, because we live in a holiday destination it's like we're on holiday and it ends up being so much fun!

Identity Theft During The Holidays

I was watching a horrifying story on the news the other day about how thieves can steal your identity and max out a credit card without even knowing your credit card number. All they need is one piece of information about you and they can get the rest. For example loosing your driver's license can be more than just an inconvenience of having to get a new ID. A lot of licenses list social security numbers on the card, I know they have stopped doing that in many states. But often times a lot of credit card companies just have you confirm your address before they give you information about your credit card over the phone, so someone having your address might be all they need to get your credit card information.

Last Minute Things....

Well I made it thru Thanksgiving without going into labor. So I am resting as much as possible and getting last minute things in order. Every day I have off and on contractions and braxton hicks which is completely normal. At least its not active labor for this long. I'm also experiencing other bodily changes that are letting me know baby is almost here.

I think I'm in pre-labor. I have just had three hours worth of Braxton Hicks and contractions that range anywhere from 30 seconds apart to 5 minutes apart. I'll have like 3 Braxton Hicks, then a painful contraction with lower back pain and cervical pressure. From my reading pre-labor can last for weeks, so I'm not too concerned unless I have several painful contractions in a row, a periodic one here or there doesn't seem like too much to worry about, but I've come to the realization that its probably a good thing that we have a scheduled C-section coming up.

Getting Ready For The Holidays

I am busily getting ready for Thanksgiving at my house, which usually includes some deep cleaning. Since Thanksgiving is hosted every year at my house, we always make sure it is as clean as possible. Yesterday I deep cleaned our refrigerator. I took every shelf out and scrubbed the whole inside of the refrigerator and it was also a good way to get rid of all that old left over food that has been forgotten about in the back of the fridge and make room for all the Thanksgiving left overs we are sure to have.

Is Wool Making A Fashion Come Back?

A bunch of my friends have taken up knitting lately. I've always been the crocheter, but I'm self taught and my attempt at making a baby blanket for my son J, didn't really work out well. The blanket kept getting shorter and shorter on one end and although pretty in color, it just didn't look right. But I wonder if knitting would be better for me. I know wool is making a fashion come back and it would be cool to make some of my friends some scarves and beanies. Thanksgiving is next week? Can anyone believe that? I feel like I have so much to do, even though I'm not going to be the one in the kitchen doing the cooking this year. Nope I'm taking it easy being two weeks away from my due date, and we've turned our little Thanksgiving celebration into a pot luck celebration this year. Am I nesting hmm... Does nesting also mean needing more and more sleep. Is it true that when you get to the end of your pregnancy you just can't get enough sleep? That is me. Just let me hibernate til the baby is here, but then I look around and see all the projects I want to get done before baby comes and that snaps me out of it a little bit.

I want to apologize if you stopped by here last night for the Hump Day Hop. I completely forgot about it. I normally schedule it over the weekend and well this weekend I had maternity photos taken in Sedona and it was a bit busy. We are busiling around here trying to get ready for baby who is due shortly after Thanksgiving. We certainly have a lot to be thankful for and this will be a very special holiday season for us.

The identity of the American man, has it changed over time? I think it has. My grandfather talked about his duty to his family with his military work in Alaska and working on the railroad. His identity as a man was how hard he worked with his hands and how much he provided for his family. Today its a bit hazy. Is the identity of a man the CEO of a multimillion dollar company? Or is it the guy pushing his child down the street in a stroller while his wife is at work? (Before you think I'm against the stay at home dad, I'm not, and I think its great, but just hear me out for a minute) At what point does a male become a "man" by society's standards? Back in the day it was when you went off to war. Now is it when you graduate high school, or is it when you no longer have your parents paying for your cell phone and car insurance? The lines are definitely obscured these days. As William J Bennet, CNN journalist writes, in his article Men Have Become The Target of Jokes, I'm clearly not surprised.

Cyber Monday Shopping Advice!

The Christmas shopping season is upon us. I've even heard Christmas carols in department stores already and its not even Thanksgiving yet, but with that being said, Black Friday and Cyber Monday aren't really that far away. Ok lets count the days Black Friday is 22 days away, and well I'm not sure this year there is anything worth me standing in line, 9 months pregnant for during the wee hours of the morning on a cold winter day...so I'll probably take advantage of any cyber monday sales that are going on.

At the end of 8 months...

Well I have another week to go before I enter my final month of pregnancy. My nineth month...I have about 36 days to go and I'm ready, but I'm not. My body is ready to get this baby out, but I'm slacking on the projects I planned to have done. For example I was supposed to be sewing diaper twenty-something this week. How many have I sewed? 9! Just nine measly diapers, which means, I'll have to buy some. Diaper Swappers here I come!

33 Weeks! Just 6 weeks to go...

Time is creeping by! I am 33 weeks pregnant and I still have this entire list of things I would like to get done before the baby comes. I unfortunatly have only made about 9 cloth diapers, I planned on making 30.....huge disappointment there and you all know how expensive cloth diapers are, but its clear I'm gonna have to buy some. I've gotten other things ready though. The baby's room is pretty much ready minus putting bedding in the crib, which we probably won't do til the week of, or maybe not yet at all since baby will most likely be in a pack n play either in our bedroom or downstairs for quite a few weeks.

I am so excited to be able to do this review. I love sending out holiday cards with the family's pictures on them.
